THOROUGHBRED | Atlantic Blue Single Speed Bike
Our Atlantic Blue Thoroughbred bike is named after the powerful horses adored by the racing world. Known for their graceful and high spirited demeanour they perfectly reflect the character of these single speed bikes.
Voted by GQ magazine as the best commuter bike of 2024 the Thoroughbred's high tensile diamond shaped frame and perfectly balanced gearing gives remarkable strength to weight ratio. The resulting ride is comfortable and smooth, enhanced by the vegan leather saddle and handgrips. Frames are fitted with plenty of eyelets for mounting bottles, racks, baskets and fenders.
All our bikes are made from branded components (see below for specification) that give reliability and peace of mind. Every bike we sell comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Bikes are delivered in a stylish Steed Bike box 85% assembled. The front wheel, saddle and peddles need to be secured in place before riding. This is easy to do and takes around 20 minutes, however if you'd rather let the experts do it then just ask your local bike repair shop to do this for you. Take a look at our assembly guide here.
If you're a Londoner and would like the professionals do the final assembly then we can deliver your new Steed directly to your nearest Fettle bike shop. More information here.
The Thoroughbred Atlantic Blue Steed Bike has a “flip-flop” back wheel allowing you to ride as either a single speed or a fixie. Bikes are delivered as single speeds with freewheel sprocket for independent pedal movement. To ride as a fixie you must rotate the wheel, and use the fixed grear sprocket located on the other side. It should be quite obvious and pretty straight forward but if you have any questions please do get in touch!
Assembly
Bikes are delivered direct to you (or to your local bike shop if you prefer) in a big fully recyclable box. Its already 85% assembled so you'll just need to affix a few things including the seat, pedals and front wheel. Its easy to do but you can always call upon your local bike shop to do this for you if your prefer. Click here for our assembly guide.
If you live in London and would rather the professionals do the final assembly we can send your bike directly to your nearest Fettle bike shop. More info here.
WHAT IS A FIXED GEAR BIKE or SINGLE SPEED BIKE?
Read our blogpost for more information.
FIXIE OR SINGLE SPEED?
Our bikes are delivered as single speeds giving independant pedal movement. However, the rear wheel has a flip flop hub so if you want to ride as a fixie you just have to flip the rear wheel and use the fixed gear sprocket on the other side.

When buying a single speed bike its important to buy a good quality bike. Beware of a very cheap bike as these will not last the distance and you will end up paying more in the long run with replacement parts.
To guarantee quality, look at the bikes components such as the brakes, tyres and drive train (crankset and chain). If these are all unbranded then its best to avoid the bike. Steed Bikes use Promax brakes and Kenda tyres, both of which are excellent quality components.
Buying a bike that offers a good warranty is also essential incase something does go wrong. All Steed Bikes come with a lifetime guarantee. -
Buying the right size bike for your frame is key to a good riding experience. Too small and your back will be hunched up and knees pulled too close to your chest, and too large and you'll be overstretched and lose strength in your posture.
Luckily all bikes conform to the same sizing labelling. Bike sizes refer to the frame size and are measured in centimeters. A 50 frame means the seat tube (part of frame that runs from your chain crank to underneath your seat) is 50cm long.
Our bikes cater for all body types - tall, short, young, old, heavy, light and all genders.
We offer 3 sizes, small (50cm), medium (54cm) and large (58cm). If you are 5ft to 5ft 6 inches then chose Small. If you are 5ft 7 inchese to 6ft then chose Medium and if you are 6ft 1 inches to 6ft 5 inches then chose Large. For ease, our bikes have the size guides next to them on the drop down menu next to the particular bike.
So if you stand between 5ft and 6ft 5 inches tall, we have the perfect bike for you!

This is one the questions we get asked the most. How much do single speed bikes weigh? The weight will mostly depend on the frame size and what the frame is made from.
Most single speeds are made from high tensile steel. This material gives an excellent strength to weight ratio. Strong enough to withstand the knocks and bumps of road riding, but light enough to be able to carry up stairs or onto a bike hanger.Singles speed bikes usually weigh between 10kg and 16kg. Steed Bikes weigh between 10kg and 11kg depending on frame size.
